Yan Jianping is a painter living in Peru. Born in Shanghai, China, he immigrated to Peru in 1985. From a young age, he always loved painting. Influenced by Western painting styles, especially impressionism, Yan Jianping devoted nearly ten years to doing outdoor sketches of streets, rivers, and the Shanghai Bund with self-taught techniques. He often wento to numerous cities around China including Hangzhou, Suzhou, Qingdao, Xi'an, Luoyang, Chongqing, and Chengdu, where he produced over a thousand different works. In the 1970's, Yan Jianping became a student of Mr. Liu Haisu, a Chinese painting master.

In the late 80's, he became interested in the inscriptions on bones and tortoise shells, pictograms, and applying the unique letterforms in his paintings. Thanks to his long practice of sketching outdoors, has developed a keen eye for color. In his paintings, Jianping applies Eastern abstract concepts with colorful Western techniques, achieving an ingenious combination of two completely different styles. He combines Chinese ink wash painting and traditional oil, taking you to mysterious new worlds with subtle changes that shows excitement and poetry in his abstract paintings.
